How I came to be a Psychotherapist

I was born in Malta and lived here my young life, but moved with my family to The Middle East during my teens and youth. Having not gained much of an education, mainly due to the changes in environment and the fact that i was a troubled teen, I returned to Malta and at the age of 18 began from scratch studying in order to gain entry into university. It was during this time that I needed to admit that I had been suffering from anxiety and depression and sought help in order to complete my university entry requirements, which got me in touch with professionals in the field of mental health. From then my path in life was clear, I too wanted to be present for others in times when their path was dark and unsure, and therefore chose Psychology when i entered university and eventually completed my Bachelors in 2003. After working in the field of Special Needs for two years I took to traveling again and moved to Poland and later London where I completed a Masters in Dance and Movement Therapy, which was rooted in Psychodynamic thought from the University of London. I practiced as a Dance Therapist for 3 years and life in the U.K. was rewarding but I missed the warmth and the sun and sea. I returned to Malta practiced as a Dance therapist and strengthened my training by completing a Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy.

I try to live my life in the way that I teach my clients - .mindful and aware of myself in the present moment, authentic and genuine and by being transparent in my relationships with others and true to my inner truth. I remind myself to reach out and connect deeply to others when I find myself withdrawing and retreating. Sometimes I succeed and in my path and plans and at others I fail and remember to be kind to myself in those instances, accept my current position and reflect on how better to proceed.. I do not have a favorite client population but instead love working with a diverse array of clients each with their own needs, listening to and honoring their stories, seeing the beauty in how they have coped thus far. and sensitizing them to their own needs, desires and goals as well as bringing awareness and growth to the relationships they have with others and especially the relationship they have with themselves. Finding love for myself, accepting myself just the way I am, the parts I like and the parts I like less, learning to be gentle and kind to myself, living with and thoroughly experiencing the ebbs and flow of emotion is what gets me through the ever changing kaleidoscope of life and what I teach my clients. Deepening our relationship with ourselves is often at the center of changing our patterns of relating to the world and to others. I look forward to traveling with you on your path, reflecting with you and embracing the way you have creatively adjusted to your life circumstances all however it may have unfolded thus far, I promise to find all the beauty that is you.
